A determined team of Arran Ladies Golf Union players from Whiting Bay are the winners of this year’s Kiscadale Salver.
The annual competition, which takes place over a fortnight, was played at Machrie Bay Golf Club with teams from Brodick, Machrie Bay, Shiskine, Lamlash and Whiting Bay competing for the silverware.
The Kiscadale Salver games, while competitive, are always cordial and are enjoyed with friends, many of whom have competed in the competition for many years.
A union spokesperson said: “After four evenings of golf, there was only one point between the two leading teams who were drawn against each other on the last day, leaving the competition ending with a cliffhanger.
“Lamlash and Whiting Bay arrived on the tee with everything to play for. Lamlash played extremely well in the first game and won 6 and 5, only to outdone by Whiting Bay’s second couple who also won convincingly, leaving the score with Whiting Bay still one point up.”
At the end of the final game, Whiting Bay players were presented with the coveted Kiscadale Salver.
Other main prizewinners were: Fiona Scott - Flockhart Trophy; Ann May - Drumadoon Tray; Charlie Taylor - Cir Mhor Trophy and Island Championship runner-up Quaich; and Susan Butchard - Island Championship Trophy.
Hosts Machrie Bay presented ALGU with a new trophy - a beautiful Wooden Spoon for the team which came last. This trophy was graciously received in good humour by Margaret Roxburgh on behalf of Brodick Golf Club.
The spokesperson congratulated Whiting Bay on their victory and thanked the hosts, Machrie Bay, and all of the players and teams for contributing to another successful event.
