Oban will find out next Friday, October 25, whether it will be crowned as Scotland’s Town of the Year.
The community is one of five places in the running for the title, which is part of the Scotland Loves Local Awards.
TV presenter Sean Batty - an ambassador for Scotland Loves Local - was spotted filming in the town earlier this month as part of his work with Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP), the organisation behind the awards and the wider campaign.
BID4Oban, meanwhile, has highlighted its commitment to encouraging everyone to support local businesses by signing the Scotland Loves Local Pledge.
The statement of intent, which has been signed by business improvement districts, businesses, local authorities and individuals across the country, underpins how choosing local lays the foundation for a better future for the area’s residents and economy.
It states: “We will choose local, prioritising the people and businesses around us at every opportunity.”
BID4Oban chief executive Andrew Spence signed the pledge on the organisation’s behalf at a recent meeting with STP chief officer Kimberley Guthrie.
She said: “We are delighted to see BID4Oban sign the Scotland Loves Pledge and publicly demonstrate its commitment to encouraging everyone to support local businesses.
“The power of choosing local more often - whether that be residents doing so in their daily lives or businesses supporting other local businesses - is transformational.
“Greater support for local enterprises protects jobs and businesses. And that support underpins the tireless work taking place to help communities adapt to our ever-changing world, seizing opportunities to innovate, invest and make our communities better places to live, work and visit.”
