Thirty gents took to the course at Dunaverty Golf Club last Saturday to play in the club’s Autumn Meeting.
With heavy rain during the week preceding play, the long 17th hole was out of commission so the winter tee was used, making it a par-three.
The rain desisted on the day and, although bright skies prevailed, the wind proved to be a leveller with strong gusts in between the constant breeze making scoring tricky.
Robert Irvine posted a decent gross score of 71 in the first group of the day but that was soon eclipsed by Alistair McConnachie who returned a magnificent scratch 65 which included a hole-in-one at the 16th to take the captain’s scratch prize – a feat he also managed in the Spring Meeting earlier in the season.
In the handicap side, Tom Campbell was first to show a decent score with a fine nett 64 but only two groups later, Willie Young went one better with a 63 to take the prize.
Donald Brown (Southend) came close in the afternoon ballot but just fell short of Willie’s total to take second place.
Willie was also the winner of the captain’s prize at the Spring Meeting so it was a double for both players in this season.
A club spokesperson said: “Thanks to Captain Willie Ralston for providing the prizes for the day’s play, greenkeepers Jonathan Barbour and Campbell MacBrayne for turning the course out in magnificent condition despite the heavy rain during the week and to Moyra Paterson and staff at The Putt Stop for the usual high standard of catering.”
Results: 1 Willie Young 76-13=63, 2 Donald Brown (Southend) 78-14=64 (bih), 3 Tom Campbell 76-12=64. Lowest gross: Alistair McConnachie 65.
