Glasgow and District Youth Football League Division 2 - 2009s U13s
It was heartbreak for the young Pupils team on Sunday, with a late double sucker punch denying them their first league points of their debut season.
The early exchanges were very even, and it was the Pupils who made the breakthrough midway through the half with Logan Norris dispatching a penalty into the corner following a deliberate handball in the box.
Busby came close on a couple of occasions, and found an equaliser from what looked to be a clear offside position shortly before half time.
The Pupils lead was almost restored when good link-up play by Ross Hamilton, who was making his debut, and Ryan Johnston resulted in a good save from the goalkeeper from the latter’s shot, and the score at half time remained 1-1.
The second half continued much like the first, with a tough midfield battle between two well-matched teams and it was the Pupils who made the breakthrough when Logan Norris broke free from just inside his half to calmly score his second goal of the game.
Busby then put the Pupils under some prolonged pressure, and just when it looked like the Pupils had weathered the storm, the last 10 minutes turned the game on its head.
First, Busby equalised with a well-struck shot after an indirect free kick had been awarded in the Pupils box.
Then, as the final minutes were ticking away and a draw (probably a fair result) looked on the cards, Busby snatched the winner with only two minutes remaining.
A sore one for the young Kintyre team, but hopefully one that will spur them on for the second half of the season.
This Sunday the Pupils welcome league leaders Finnart 09s, kick off 12.30pm, on the Aqualibrium 3G pitch.
