The Highland Archive Service is extremely excited to be involved in Jacobite Scotland’s new Jacobite Festival, taking place across Scotland between August 16 and 25.
The festival comprises numerous Jacobite-related events held by groups and organisations across the country, including the Lochaber Archive Centre in Fort William and the Highland Archive Centre in Inverness.
The Highland Archive Service’s first involvement will be on Saturday August 17 at the Glenfinnan Highland Gathering and Games.
Here, Lochaber Archivist Rory Green and Community Engagement Officer Lorna Steele-McGinn will be sharing a stall with the West Highland Museum, showcasing the amazing Jacobite collections held by both organisations, and talking all things Jacobite with Games attendees.
On Monday August 19, Highland Archive Service Family Historian, Anne Fraser will join Lorna Steele-McGinn for an online talk entitled The Lives of Lord Lovat and Duncan Forbes.
These two figures were central to the story of the Jacobite Risings, and records held by the Highland Archive Service document their fascinating lives and dramatic deaths – one on the scaffold and one of ‘heartbreak’.

Finally, on the Wednesday August 21, a display of Highland Archive Service’s amazing and original Jacobite documents will take place at the Lochaber Archive Centre. Running from 2-4pm, this a drop-in event with no entry charge. However, as the service is a charitable organisation, donations are very welcome.
