Lochaber families in need of educational and outdoor entertainment during the upcoming Easter holidays are being offered an array of activities by the High Life Highland (HLH) Countryside Rangers.
Treasure hunts, science experiments, and seashore exploration are all on the menu during the Rangers’ annual Schools Out programme, which will run from April 7-19.
The Community Outdoor Learning Hub at Glen Nevis will be the site of several activities across the fortnight, with a bilingual English/Gaelic Book Bug session offering marshmallow toasting on April 11, and a new experiment-driven Spring into Science afternoon arriving on April 15.
The Hub will also finish the holidays with an Easter egg hunt on April 19, in an event that will also feature games and activities.
Elsewhere in Lochaber, Fort William Library is hosting a drop in spring crafts afternoon on April 8, the day after Arisaig Gardens hosts its treasure and scavenger hunts.
Ballachulish will also engage in a treasure hunt, with investigative minds asked to meet at the quarry gate between 1pm and 2.30pm on April 16, while Bishops Bay in North Ballachulish will be the scene of a Seashore Safari on April 9, during which families can look for wildlife residing on the shore.
The Sunart Centre in Ardnamurchan will host three days of fun for the nursery-P3 and P4-P7 age groups, running April 8-10. Shinty, drama, soap making, and art will give the children new skills as they step into spring.
For Eilidh-Ann Phillips, Senior Countryside Ranger (South Highland) at HLH, the Schools Out activities are a way to help families appreciate being outdoors together.
“As Countryside Rangers, our main aim is to engage people with nature and the outdoors, and these events give a little taster of how people can do that,” she said.
People can expect some time spent outdoors with the family, some fun and enjoyment, and potentially a little bit of learning as well.”
Prices for activities vary across the week, with discounts available for HLH Members and booking via the Eventbrite website required for non-drop in events.
More information on the Schools Out events, both in Lochaber and across the Highlands, as well as upcoming adult workshops, can be found on the Rangers page of the HLH website.
