Iain Makay, Stockman for the Cnoc Fold, will have the onerous task of judging the Annual Spring Show and Sale of Highland Cattle within Oban Livestock Centre on Sunday 9th February. Over 80 animals, including 43 bulls, will be in front of him, with exhibitors travelling from south of the border. There has also been great interest from the home crowd with various members looking for new bulls.
The sale kicks off another busy year for The Highland Cattle Society including 2 planned open days highlighting the many benefits of using Highland cows for the first cross using native and continental sires.
This year we will also be hosting the 5th International Congress & Gathering - ‘Return to the Highlands’ where Cattle Breeders from the four corners of the world will congregate in Scotland. The object of the conference, which will take place over 7 days in and around Scotland, is to define the role of the Highland Breed in the 21st Century, and to identify the best methods by which we can be sure we are breeding the right type of cattle thus ensuring the survival of the Highland Breed. By increasing the popularity throughout the cattle breeding world and to develop a greater understanding of the environment to which the breed is best suited.
