What began as a simple stop for coffee became a life-altering decision for one couple, May (nee Maccormick) and Grant West, who instantly fell in love with the venue and decided to plan their wedding on the spot.
The Knipoch Hotel’s dedicated team including general manager Andreas, Andrew, Stephanie, Oskar and Anne proved instrumental, providing expert guidance and meticulous attention to detail throughout the planning process. Their professionalism and attentiveness ensured the bride and groom could enjoy every moment with complete peace of mind.

The Knipoch Hotel is more than just a wedding venue in Oban —it’s a picturesque retreat that perfectly complements a couple’s most special day. The pristine hotel grounds, paired with panoramic views, create an idyllic backdrop or ceremonies and photographs. Even in chilly December weather, the scenery provided stunning outdoor photo opportunities for photographer Mairi Fleck, with the rugged beauty of the Highlands captured in every frame.
Mairi told us “It was a real privilege to be chosen as the photographer for the first wedding at Knipoch House Hotel, and the venue is absolutely perfect for a family wedding. Stunning both inside and out, with amazing attention to detail, and I absolutely loved all the cosy spaces where family could sit and chat together. Plus the food is to die for!”
Exclusive use of the hotel for two days allowed the couple to host their guests in comfort and style. The venue offered ample parking, luxurious accommodation, and an exceptional culinary experience that received high praise from guests. The bridal suite was a particular highlight, spacious enough to accommodate hairdressers and makeup artists; Nathalie from Hair Spa, Rebecca from Amore and Olga from Ora Rosa on the wedding morning, adding to the relaxed and joyful atmosphere.
Seamless Coordination
One of The Knipoch Hotel’s standout features is its dedicated wedding coordinator, Oskar Gilchrist-Grodnickiadd (Wedding Planner of the Year 2024 by Your Scottish Wedding Awards) whose full-service management ensures a seamless experience. From the timeline to the tiniest detail, every aspect of the day was executed awlessly, allowing the couple to fully immerse themselves in their celebration without a single worry.
Guests were welcomed with delicious canapés and drinks before enjoying an exquisite meal prepared by renowned chef Andrew Engledow, that showcased the hotel’s exceptional cuisine. The evening festivities began with a traditional touch as the bridal party was piped into the marquee by local piper Tomas Young, setting the tone for a lively ceilidh from the Robert Nairn Ceilidh Band. Dancing, laughter, and joy filled the air, creating cherished memories for all in attendance.
