The play, Where Did All the Flowers Come From?, is one of five included in Gordon’s book of dramatic works called Arran Dramas, which was published in 2017, and needless to say, are all set on Arran.
Where Did All the Flowers Come From? tells the story of sisters Rhona, Vicky and Mary who meet to mark the occasion of their mother’s burial, a year to the day following her funeral.
Puzzled by the many flowers left on their mother’s grave, they start to probe the reasons for this and who is responsible.
Hatching a plan to catch the donor, the answer leads to some unexpected revelations that their mother did not want to share with her daughters.
Gordon grew up on Arran, having attended Brodick Primary and Arran High School, and his love of the island has featured prominently in his work, with three of his six novels that he has written being set on Arran.
In addition to his novels, Gordon also found time to write four plays, a radio play and a screenplay (with one of these being the one which has recently been produced as a podcast), as well as a huge body of work in his previous careers working for a national newspaper and four journals.
These days, Gordon laments, he lives in Merseyside and rarely gets a chance to do much writing, having become a priest in the Church of England.
Of course, Gordon has followed in his father’s footsteps, Rev Dr Ian Macleod, who lives in Corrie with his wife Nancy.
Both Ian and Gordon continue a family tradition of ministry, Ian’s grandfather and Gordon’s great grandfather, Rev Alexander Hendry, was an Episcopalian minister in Glasgow.
Most of Gordon’s work can be purchased on Amazon, including his first novel Silicon Glen, published by tartan moon in 2009, and his subsequent novels, 76, Just a Little Drop More, Beyond the Tree at Mamre and Carrot Toppers.
The podcast, Where Did All the Flowers Come From?, and an aligned podcast from the actors who played the parts and who describe the play and their experiences acting the parts, is available on Amazon and Apple Books.
Gordon has recently finished his sixth novel, Pods for Pigs, and is currently seeking the services of a literary agent with a view to this being published sometime in the near future.
