Guest speaker at Lochaber Rotary Business Lunch on Wednesday March 19 was Ian Stewart, Forestry Associate at the Fort William office of Bidwells - land and property surveyors and advisors.
Ian is from Vancouver, Canada and gained a BSc degree in Natural Resource Management at North British Columbia University.
With a lifelong love of nature and the outdoors, Ian joined Bidwells in 2012 and works throughout the West Highlands and Islands focusing on woodland management, woodland creation, delivery and strategic overall forestry planning with a special interest in the environmental impact of forestry projects.
Ian loves his job and explained: “I enjoy the challenges involved in woodland creation, environmental impact assessment work and ensuring that every site is sustainably managed.”
He added that he liaises regularly with Forestry & Land Scotland and NatureScot and is very involved in evaluating the carbon capture value of woodland.
Ian’s talk generated a wide range of questions following which Rotary President Malcolm MacRaild thanked him for his “very informed and interesting talk”. The audience responded with warm applause.
