Oban is set to mark International Women’s Day well.
An immersive free event designed to celebrate, empower, and support women is set for this Sunday, March 8, hosted by Tralee Bay Holiday Park from 10am to 4pm.
The full-day experience has a programme of activities lined up, focused on mental health, wellbeing, and personal growth – all while raising funds for vital women’s charities.
Organised by Vicky Manning of The Little Foragers Kitchen, this community-driven initiative brings together a team of expert facilitators for a day of foraging, forest bathing, women’s health education, and rejuvenating sauna sessions.
Those going along can choose to join in the entire day’s programme or chose which ones interest them most.
To make it as accessible as possible for people there is a ‘pay what you feel’ structure for key activities, with all proceeds going to Women’s Aid and the NCRIs Women’s Committee, which fights for justice for Iranian
women, making sure the day benefits not just those taking part in the event but also women on a wider scale.
“This is hopefully the first of many celebrations for International Women’s Day in Oban. We’ve worked hard to create a day that nurtures both body and mind while fostering a sense of community and empowerment. Everyone is welcome, whether they join for the full experience or just one session," said organiser Vicky.
The programme’s highlights start with a forage and forest bathing session from 10am to noon. Vicky will be joined by Carys Hughes of Nature Connects Perthshire to explore edible and medicinal plants while soaking up the therapeutic benefits of the wooded area. This activity is donation-based with advance booking needed, and will be in aid of Women’s Aid.
A bookable community meal will follow from noon until 1pm, and is donation-based.
Nutritionist Cara Redpath will present a women’s health workshop from 1pm to 2pm, looking at hormone health and covering essential topics such as nutrition, detoxification and cycle syncing. Donations from this session will go to supporting the NCRIs Women’s Committee.
Then to wrap up the day, there will be discounted wood-fired sauna sessions with optional ice bath, provided by Wild Bathing, from 2-4pm.
