Lochgilphead Primary School and Pre-5 unit’s parents and pupils have been rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck into the school’s garden to make it fresh and tidy for spring.
Over two Saturdays the last two months the primary school, parent teacher association and parent council Garden Group has been tackling the wilderness that was the school garden.
Volunteers have turned up to clear overgrown shrubs, weeded beds, cleared pathways and trimmed back overgrown trees.
A spokesperson for the PTA/PC told the Advertiser: “We are meeting on the first Saturday of every month with volunteers dropping in between 10am-12.30pm.
“The garden had become very overgrown so the PTA decided to ask parents, staff and pupils from the school to help.
“There are a variety of volunteers with a core group and some different faces each time.
“One of the areas in the garden is being developed into an outdoor classroom and learning area and it is planned that the garden will suit all ages and abilities to learn and appreciate plants and nature.
“Pupil Voice Groups within the school will also help in adding some colour with artwork, insect hotels and birdboxes.
“If anyone would like to contribute towards our garden with plants, tools, garden resources or their green fingered expertise then please contact the school by emailing enquiries-lochgilphead@argyll-bute.gov.uk”
In taking part, the volunteers are helping to achieve the schools values of Achievement – tidying up the garden; Wellbeing – being active outdoors; Collaboration – working together; and resilience – gardening in the rain!
Even the odd toad has been found – and a toad house for it to shelter in created.
