The Inveraray and District Accordion and Fiddle Club welcomed in the New Year at the Inveraray Inn on January 8 and despite frosty weather, it did not deter a large crowd from turning out to hear the ever-popular guest artists, the Ross MacPherson Trio.
Chairman Roddy MacDiarmid welcomed everyone but due to seasonal illness, Fyne Folk were unable to open proceedings in the usual fashion.
So it was John Kelly on guitar and Janine Ashall on whistle who got the night under way and their selections were much enjoyed.
Next up was Donnie MacCorquodale on accordion, Innes Munro on drums and accompanied by Ross, with some cracking pipe marches and reels.
It was then time for the guest artists – no strangers to the club – with Ross on accordion, Calum MacPhail on fiddle and Angus D MacColl on drums/Highland bagpipes.
They delighted the audience with a great selection of lovely Gaelic/modern waltzes, pipe marches, polkas, reels and a sing-a-long medley – with a lovely fiddle solo from Calum in between and Angus D, along with Ross and Calum, switching over to the pipes for a rousing medley to bring the first half to a close.
After tea and the raffle, the ‘local’ players came back for another turn and then it was back to Ross and Co for more of the same for the remainder of the evening – a west coast sound at its best.
The chairman thanked all the artists for their great music and next week the club welcomes back Robert Nairn and his Trio.
The club meets on Wednesday February 12 in the Inveraray Inn at 7.30pm.
