The Big Bike Film Night is back at Highland Cinema for 2024! Screening Tuesday 8th October at 7pm, this is a special evening featuring 2.5 hours of moving bike films that has everything a cycle-centric audience could want – action, drama, humour and plenty of inspiration; plus all attendees can enter into a fantastic prize draw worth £360!
Started in 2014 in New Zealand, The Big Bike Film Night has become a beloved short film festival that shows across Australasia, Scotland, London and Guernsey. The evening is unashamedly designed and devised for the two-wheel devotee by founder Brett Cotter, who will be introducing the night at Highland Cinema in person.
This year’s treasure chest of shorts includes a visually commanding film following one rider’s colourful adventure scouring the most beautiful spots from Guatemala to Peru via Bolivia; a documentary about a community of cyclists from Alexandra, New Zealand; discovering how a bicycle can bring real change to people’s lives; a father and his daughter prepare for their greatest adventure together on a bike ride around Central Otago’s Lake Dunstan Trail; a passionate and quirky Australian "bicycle whisperer”; 10 young people embarking on a 900km bikepacking trip from Wellington to Wānaka in New Zealand; a fast-paced feminist bike race film set in Toronto, Canada; a moving movie set in Scotland showcasing how the simple joy of riding bikes can make a big impact; and rounding out the night, “Everesting” is a feather few cyclists have in their caps, but what happens if your cap is full?
These short films are a great reminder of why people love bikes, with stories that captivate, that make you think, and most important of all, inspire new and existing cyclists to get out and ride. All celebrate the fun, adventure and joy that cycling enables.
All tickets are £16/adult, £11/child regardless of where you sit, so get in quick to get the best seats! The show will begin on schedule at 7pm, with a brief in-person introduction by Big Bike Night founder Brett Cotter.
