Artist and owner, Senja Brendon and gallery manager, Diana Scott, at Saltwater Gallery have battled through successive storms and various challenges to rehang their new exhibition, It`s a small world.
There is always a smile or two and a very warm welcome for everyone during a visit to Saltwater Gallery and this extends to islanders and visitors alike. The music will be playing, the wood burner will be lit and the walls alive with new creations made with joy, passion, love and determination. A visit, whatever the weather is guaranteed to brighten your day and make your trip worthwhile.
Senja explains: “Friends often ask me about winter on Arran and for sure, it can be difficult living on an island at this time of year, we have missed our loved ones and customers this festive season and we are working hard to increase our online presence with our brand new website www.saltwatergallery.co.uk which will allow customers to shop with us from further afield in the future”.
On the upside, Senja and Diana both agree that winter is one of the most stunning seasons on Arran. “The sky is full of drama, the sea is a myriad of moods and colours and the trees and buildings stand stark and dark against the weather. Sunlight and shadows dance everywhere in the glory of inspiration,” said Senja.
Despite high winds, floods, power cuts and many ferry cancellations, the charming gallery at Cladach is ready to welcome visitors - especially those that can brave the weather for a relaxing and welcoming visit.
“This dramatic landscape that we are so lucky to have on our doorstep is not only the perfect inspiration for an artist but is also an incredible experience to witness if you are lucky enough to visit, even just for a wee day trip”.
This coming year Saltwater Gallery has a full programme of new exhibitions planned and with regular featured artists and pop-up shows, many linking up with local events and organisations such as the Arran Mountain Festival and the RNLI open day.
Cladach, where the gallery is situated, offers a number of visitor attractions and continues to grow as a destination. There is much camaraderie and co-operation among the growing workforce and a visit to any of the attractions is well worth your time and efforts, even if the weather tries its best to dissuade you.
