UHI Argyll is excited to celebrate the continued growth of its Modern Apprenticeship programme, with numbers rising year on year. From April 2024 to March 2025, we’ve welcomed 73 new Modern Apprentices, supporting our commitment to expanding opportunities for both individuals and businesses across Argyll, Bute and Arran.
Our success has been recognised at the prestigious Scottish Apprenticeship Awards. For the second year running, one of our apprentices reached the finals of the Modern Apprentice of the Year SCQF Level 5 category. The 2025 ceremony took place last week and we are thrilled to announce that UHI Argyll apprentice Mia Walker, from the Isle of Arran, was named the category winner. The recognition is a testament to the quality of training, and the dedication of our apprentices and staff.
Apprenticeship opportunities available through UHI Argyll continues to grow, with exciting new offerings such as the Social Services: Children and Young People Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 7.
Apprenticeships are available in a variety of sectors, including aquaculture, hospitality, horticulture, and business and administration. We work closely with employers across the region including Bakkafrost Scotland, Argyll and Bute Council, Beinn an Tuirc Distillers and Carr Gomm, providing apprenticeship opportunities unique to each learner and business requirement.
Apprenticeships are a great alternative to traditional education pathways and provide an opportunity to gain practical experience while earning. As recently graduated Hospitality Services SCQF Level 5 apprentice Connor Nichol, Portavadie, shares:
“The Modern Apprenticeship has made me more inspired; it’s made me want to go for things and push myself and realise how important it is for young people to get qualifications.”
The future is bright for apprenticeships. Whether you’re considering an apprenticeship for yourself or you’re an employer looking to offer apprenticeship opportunities, visit our website to find out how to get started:
