Strath of Appin Primary School has won a ballot for tickets to the Commonwealth Day Service in London next month - and one lucky pupil has been chosen for a special honour.
The annual service, which celebrates the people and cultures of the 54 Commonwealth nations, will take place in Westminster Abbey on March 11 at 3pm, attended by members of the Royal Family, foreign dignitaries and hundreds of primary school children.
The Argyll school entered the ballot before Christmas and are celebrating after being allocated eight tickets.
Janet Fergusson, the school’s clerical assistant: said "We are absolutely delighted."
However, then came the daunting task of deciding which children to take. Luckily they only had five pupils in the P5 to P7 class, so staff were delighted.
Janet said: "The five children will be accompanied by three adults. We plan to go down on Sunday by train and that will be a great excitement as well."
However another thrill awaits at the televised event. Traditionally one child from each nation in the UK is selected to present flowers to the Royal Family and Strath of Appin Primary has had one of its pupils picked to represent Scotland, and they will present a posie to a senior Royal.
All this though needs cash for travel and accommodation - and the Appin community has stepped into the breach.
Janet said. "The support has been amazing, we have been overwhelmed by the kindness of people. At the moment, we have raised just under £1,600."
The children also organised a fundraising ’Tea For Two’ on February 9.
They are also getting kilts made in Oban for the occasion, as well as commemorative hoodies saying ’Strath of Appin London 2024’, in bright colours.
Before their train back on Tuesday, the group are hoping to see a show or visit a museum.
Janet said: "We are going all out to make it a trip that lives long in the memory."
