A parent from Mull has launched a petition calling for a re-think of the Mull Campus decision after Argyll and Bute Council chose to maintain the status quo and keep the school in Tobermory.
The petition is the next step in a string of efforts to see a more equitable schooling solution for Mull which all the island’s children can access.
Many on Mull feel that the public consultation process from Argyll and Bute Council was a simple "tick-box exercise" and that their views and situation have not been taken seriously.
According to a local survey, 63 per cent of islanders wanted a split-site campus for Mull, but Argyll and Bute Council maintain that this is unaffordable.
Embodying these feelings, The Mull Campus For All campaign, spearheaded by the Mull Campus Working Group, has so far consisted of a protest and social media action.
The working group are also exploring potential legal action through a King’s Counsel based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Rob Claxton-Ingham, a vocal member of the working group and father from the Ross of Mull, has launched the petition of his own volition.
He said: "This decision will continue the depopulation of the southwest of Mull as working age families move away or choose not to live there in order to spare their children boarding school.
"After this divisive and unfair decision, children and families are left asking why their rights to a family life, as enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, are worth less than their peers in the centre and north of the island.
"This short-sighted decision has been justified through a financial lens, when all options to make sure everyone can access education on their own island have not been explored.
"Let’s be clear all children should have access to a local primary and a high school on the island so that school access is fair for everyone.
"Please sign this petition to ask Argyll and Bute Council to re-examine this decision and work in partnership with the community and Scottish Government to ensure all children can stay at home and access a high school education.
"It’s no more than they deserve."
