Part retrospective plans to extend an Oban camping and caravan park have been given the go-ahead.
Highland Holidays submitted the application to Argyll and Bute Council for changes to be made at Oban Camping and Caravan Park on Gallanach Road.
A total of 29 objections, and 14 expressions of support, had been received by the authority as part of the planning process.
And one councillor commented on the fact that objections had mostly come from local residents, whereas the supporters were based further afield.
However, planning permission was unanimously granted by the council’s planning, protective services and licensing committee at its meeting on Wednesday, March 19.
After several councillors had questioned the layout of the site, Councillor Liz McCabe (Independent, Isle of Bute) said: “I understand everybody’s confusion.
“Earlier on, when councillor Jan Brown (SNP, Mid Argyll) questioned the areas, she was told that area E was roundabout area C. That is not where it is at all.
“I am also concerned that there are 29 objections with addresses in the Oban area, and 14 supporters, most of whom are by email, or from Inverness or West Sussex. I find it very strange altogether.”
Committee chair councillor Kieron Green (Independent, Oban North and Lorn) said: “In terms of the application, as well as comments and representations, there is reference to static caravans.
“On confirming the planning terms, there is no distinction between those. You might have a static caravan, the type you would have had in the 1980s, or maybe a double one.”
Planning officer Tim Williams responded: “Caravans are naturally difficult to pin down by definition. There has been all sorts over the years. The law is by no means clear on whether they can include ancillary structures.”
Councillor Green then said: “I guess that officers are content that this development is well screened within the landscape and has an impact on a very small proportion of this area.”
The committee then agreed unanimously to award planning permission.
