Carradale writer Helen Rowlands returned home an annual writers’ convention the victor last weekend, proudly carrying a winner’s trophy.
Helen beat seven other writers from across Scotland at this year’s Scottish Association of Writers Conference in the event’s showcase finale, ‘The Dragons’ Pen’.
She had just three minutes followed by a five-minute grilling to pitch her debut novel to the conference ‘dragons’.
Comprising Scottish authors Gillian Duff and Kirsty Hammond, and author/publisher LM Affrossman, the dragons were no walkover, but, despite a very strong field, the decision to award the magnificent wooden quill to Helen for her “strong contemporary escapist novel” was unanimous.
Helen said: “The hard work has just begun if I am to follow in the dragons’ considerable footsteps, with Gillian and Kirsty previous Dragons’ Pen winners.”
She hopes to have completed and published her novel in time to sign copies at next year’s conference.
