I’m a Celebrity star Reverend Richard Coles caused a stir at Stornoway Airport security when his black pudding was mistaken for an explosive.
The famous retired Church of England priest had picked up the tasty souvenir from the Isle of Lewis during his New Year’s trip to the Western Isles, but did not expect the delicacy to cause such a drama.
Posting to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday January 7, he said: “Want to trigger an emergency response going through airport security?
“Simply purchase some Black Pudding from the Isle of Lewis, which looks to the scanner like Semtex. Tastes MUCH nicer.”
Rev Richard Coles is a broadcaster, writer, and former member of the band The Communards. He recently starred on the 2024 series of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!
On his trip to the Outer Hebrides he took in the stunning scenery of Harris and Stornoway and visited the Teampall Mholuaidh, St Moluag’s church, at the most northerly point of Lewis.
A HIAL spokesperson said: “We were pleased to welcome the Reverend Richard Coles to Stornoway Airport.
“It’s great that he is such a huge fan of one of the region’s delicacies. We hope to see him back on the Isle of Lewis soon."
