The people of Tarbert have done it again, raising an amazing amount of money for charity.
Margaret and Duggie MacNeill who run the Corner House bar were speechless when the race night they organised on Saturday raised £5,000 for Parkinson’s UK Scotland.
It is a charity close to their hearts because Duggie has Parkinson’s, which is possibly part of the reason so many regulars came out in droves to support the event.
The pub was mobbed with punters betting on nine races and snapping up raffle tickets. Races were sponsored by generous business-people from Tarbert and outwith the area.
Village businesses made generous donations to ensure the raffle had fabulous prizes on offer.
The Corner House has a reputation for raising large sums of money for charity through its fundraising endeavours. In January, a quiz night raised £2,850 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Margaret said: “It was a very emotional night. We were surprised to get such a high final total, especially after raising such a great amount for MacMillan only four weeks ago.
“I think Saturday night was the most we have ever raised. We were speechless when we added it up.”
The stakes got higher as the night went on, with big money on the cards by the final race.
So it was a very kind gesture by a group Margaret called “the young team,” who won £630 and promptly donated it straight to the cause.
She said: “We were really proud of everyone who supported us.”
Margaret and Duggie thank everyone who donated prizes or sponsored races.
Special thanks to Rikky Graham for being compère on the night.
Allie MacKinnon and Martin Jefferies helped sell race tickets on the night. They regularly volunteer at Corner House fundraising events. Thanks also go to Zena Hawthorn for selling raffle tickets.
