Fares for passage on the Corran Ferry are to increase from Tuesday April 1, with private cars due to pay £12 and minibuses £16.50 for the 400m crossing.
Having previously paid £11 and £15, the new fares represent a 9 per cent and 10 per cent rise respectively.
Motorbikes will see their cost move from £5 to £5.50, while large vehicles will see the highest monetary rise: articulated vehicles will pay £57 rather than £52, while coaches of 36 seats or more will need to hand over £32
instead of £29.20.
A full list of the new prices is due to be published on the Corran Ferry website.
Increases to the fares on the Corran Ferry were part of a variety of fundraising moves agreed at the Highland Council budget meeting held on March 6, sitting alongside rises to council tax, parking permits, and council
services.
Proposals put to council members at the meeting estimated that higher ferry crossing fees at the Corran Narrows would generate a further £179000 of income for the council, with the ferry service due to bring in an annual revenue of just under £1.9m.
As well as announcing the change in fares at the Corran Ferry, Highland Council has confirmed that arrangements for the Maid of Glencoul’s annual spring refit are now in place.
This year’s main work on the Maid - MV Corran’s relief vessel - is an overhaul of its forward main engine. The MV Corran’s schedule is not expected to be affected by the overhaul.
