Over the last few months a team from the Lochaber-based Kirtsy’s Kids charity have undertaken a number of challenges to raise funds for a £40,000 aid consignment which they will personally deliver to Ukraine.
This will be the charity’s fifth trip to help people in the war torn country.
In securing these resources charity founders Jan and John Bryden along with co- ordinator Sally Gardner have so far included a wheelbarrow challenge training walk from Glenfinnan to Strontian and Strontian to Glenfinnan as well as from Mallaig to Lochailort in training.
Another key member of the team was the Eeyore soft toy which belonged to the couple’s late daughter Kirsty in who’s name the Charity was founded.
They also completed the West Highland Way’s 98 miles in five days with Eeyore in his wheelbarrow chariot and then went on to complete the Rob Roy Way a similar distance in pouring rain over four days.
In their most recent challenge they left the Glen Nevis visitor Centre Carpark determined to attain the summit of Ben Nevis carrying Eeyore in his Wheelbarrow.
To cope with any adverse conditions their kit included crampons, ice axes and a tent as they were prepared to spend the night on the mountain should weather or light prove too bad for a return trip.
However they succeeded in completing the trip in the course of the day.
More fund raising will follow as they set off again to walk the 75mile Great Glen Way from Fort William to Inverness complete with Eeyore and Wheelbarrow in tow.
