The Re_Store fashion show was a big hit at the Rockfield Centre last week, with every seat sold out.
The show was a celebration Re_Store’s first anniversary, reinforcing that it is far more than your standard charity shop.
People crammed into the Rockfield Centre to watch, with interest in the event so high that many had to be turned away.
With themes stretching from culture to Re_Store the rainbow, there was plenty of variety to entertain the few hundred-strong audience.
All the clothes on display, including the head-turning show-stoppers, were either directly from the shop’s racks or created in one of its popular upcycling workshops.
Special short films covering the work of each charity involved in Re_Store, Hope Kitchen, AliEnergy, Oban Youth Cafe, and Atlantis Leisure’s Healthy Options, were also shown for the first time.
And the best part? Everything the models showed off was up for sale at the end of the night.
The audience was also encouraged to get involved through the People’s Choice category, where local MP Brendan O’Hara made an appearance.
Overcoming embarrassment, the MP addressed the crowd, saying: "Everything you see me wear in the House of Commons is from second-hand shops because I believe in sustainable fashion."
Re_Store’s success in its first year has given the Connecting Communities Collective, the partnership of five local charities who set up Re_Store, the confidence that it can be a permanent fixture. So they have decided to explore buying the building.
Catriona Petit, service manager at Hope Kitchen said they hope to buy the store "so that the shop can be an asset for the community, owned and run by local people."
She continued: "There will be opportunities in the future to hear more about this and forums where people can give and share their ideas."
Aideen Shields, Development Officer for the Connecting Communities Collective, said: "I’ve been blown away by the response.
"I’m delighted it went so well, it’s a testament to all the hard work everyone put in.
"I was worried that some things couldn’t work, with people rushing around and changing outfits, but it all went swimmingly. The store has been attracting some amazing people.
"All the showstoppers were fabulous, they all spent time creating something special just for the show tonight, I’m going to have to figure out how to display them.
"We sold out days before the event, the response has been incredible. A lot of people in Oban seem to love a fashion show!"
