Nine-year-old Kobi’s owner Karen MacDonald is overwhelmed by people’s generosity so far. Earlier this week there was just £500 to go.
The Show Cocker Spaniel had already started chemo when Karen’s sister Tanya MacDonald launched the appeal to pay for the remaining 20 weeks of chemotherapy ahead of Kobi whose needs had maxed out his insurance with urgent appointment, biopsies, scans, chemo and blood tests carried out in the beginning at the Small Animal Hospital in Glasgow.
To cut down travel costs, Kobi has been able to get some of his chemo treatment by special arrangement between the hospital and Dalriada Vets near home.
Karen said: "We are getting there. It’s overwhelming how kind people are. We are okay, trying to stay positive about my boy.
"It’s hard when reality kicks in, but he is strong and doing well with the chemo."
Kobi is managing walks out with Karen her two other dogs Duke and Jaxon.
Thanks to supporters, Karen is hopeful her much-loved pet will get the chance he deserves to enjoy his life.
In January Kobi was taken to the vets after swelling was discovered on his neck. Antibiotics were prescribed but his breathing got worse and Lymphoma was suspected with more investigations needed.
An urgent referral confirmed the suspicion and Kobi’s family were told that without treatment he could have just weeks to live.
His treatment could cost about £7,000 and Karen is determined not to give up on him, having heard about some dogs on similar treatment having nine months more, some 18 months even up to three years longer to live. Ongoing treatment is costing about £350 a week.
