Gigha’s primary pupils have been putting their island in the spotlight by chosing local landmarks to star in a national photography competition.
The island’s church, playpark and ’Bodach and Cailleach’ standing stones are among those featured in images submitted to the Scottish Civic Trust’s ’My Place’ photography competition.
The Scotland-wide contest is open to all school children aged four to 18, and encourages young people to explore the buildings, architecture and archaeology in the places they live, as well as experimenting with photography as a means of investigation and creative expression.
Gigha’s entrants, who range from P1 to P7, have been taking part in a pupil-led project through the lens over the last few months and have been out and about on the island taking lots of pictures and learning editing skills.
The competition is divided into primary-age, secondary-age and ’young person’s choice’ categories. The primary-age category and secondary-age category winners will be selected by a panel of judges, who will also nominate a few entries as either highly commended or commended.
A young person’s judging panel will select a winner of the Young Person’s Choice Award.
