The Culture Heritage and Arts Assembly, Argyll and Isles (CHARTS) network will this month award 271 Heritage Hero Awards to people around Kintyre.
Over the last year, CHARTS engaged more than 1,000 people in workshops at Campbeltown Museum through project work in collaboration with liveArgyll.
Children and adults from Kintyre primary and secondary schools, home school groups, Kintyre Care Centre, and Woodlands Resource Centre are among those receiving awards for their involvement in various projects, including more than 15 workshops hosted by CHARTS at Campbeltown Museum.
These include Wild Escape, REFLECT Remembering Together, and the Cuairt Chaluim Chille/Touring St Columba workshops, which have included building connections between young people and intergenerational exchange.
The Heritage Hero Award from Archaeology Scotland is an award scheme that celebrates achievements in history, heritage, and archaeology projects.
The aims of the Heritage Hero Awards scheme include enhancing self-confidence and well-being through engagement with challenging heritage projects, inspiring young people to cultivate a lifelong interest in Scotland’s past, raising awareness about accessing Scotland’s heritage in schools and youth organisations and fostering connections between heritage organisations, community groups, and young people.
The presentation of explorer level awards to the 271 individuals in Kintyre is possible thanks to support from the Gannochy Trust to CHARTS.
CHARTS now plans to expand on its heritage work, offering to further celebrate achievements through participation, with new accreditation and qualification offers embedded within future projects in partnership with Campbeltown Museum and liveArgyll, creating new opportunities for people of all ages across the Mid Argyll, Kintyre and Isles area.
“We have been delighted at the number of people interested in our awards made possible by the Gannochy Trust,” said Kathleen O’Neill, director of CHARTS.
“Looking forward to celebrating achievement in the Kintyre area during 2025, we aim to develop more opportunities for young people as well as older participants, building on current interests and demand.”
