Business Gateway Argyll and Bute is encouraging local businesses to take advantage of the increased support available to them.
The size and range of business grants available through Argyll and Bute Council’s business programme via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund has recently increased.
“Small businesses make a significant contribution to the economy of Argyll and Bute and the council offers support to them in a number of ways,” said the council’s Policy Lead for Business Development, Councillor Math Campbell-Sturgess. “Our Business Gateway service provides practical advice and support, for free and in confidence for anyone wanting to develop their business, or to start one. In addition, recent changes to the grants we offer mean businesses can apply for a larger grant, and more types of grants, helping them make the investments in their business to improve growth and sustainability.”
Funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the maximum size of Small Business Development Grant has recently doubled. Grants from £1,000 up to £10,000 are now available, payable at 50 per cent of approved costs for full-time businesses (operating 35+ hours per week). Part-time businesses (operating 16-34 hours per week) can apply for a grant from £1,000 to £5,000, payable at 50 per cent of approved costs.
In addition, a new Digital Grant has been launched, to help a business implement the recommendations of a Business Gateway digital surgery or digital review. Grants from £125 up to £1,000 are available, payable at 50 per cent of approved costs.
Businesses can request a free one-hour surgery with a digital expert by contacting the Argyll and Bute Business Gateway team. This can be extended to a full digital review for businesses with an established online presence.
The digital review is a fully-funded digital audit undertaken by a digital expert to audit a business’s online presence and make a set of recommendations to improve digital activity, aligned to that business’s goals.
Another change to the business support programme is that businesses are no longer restricted to applying for either a Trade Fair, Training or Accreditation grant, they can now apply for one of each. Grants from £125 up to £1,000 are available, payable at 50 per cent of approved costs, to help with the cost of exhibiting at a UK or international trade fair, undertaking training, or gaining an industry accreditation.
The Start-up Grant remains unchanged, with up to £1,000 available for full-time businesses (operating 35+ hours per week) and up to £500 for part-time businesses (operating 16-34 hours per week). The grant is paid on approval of an application.
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund business support programme, worth more than £454,000 will close to applications in December 2024, or sooner if funds are fully committed.
