Lochaber Pride will take place on Sunday June 1 with Equality For All a main theme for the day.
The much-anticipated date for the inaugural Lochaber Pride Parade was revealed on the group’s revamped Facebook page last week and everyone involved is over the moon to have been given the go ahead by Highland Council and Police Scotland.
Fort William’s Gemma MacLeod played a key roll in getting the parade off the ground, and talking about the historic event taking place in June said: "I can’t tell you how good it felt to finally be able to release a date for Lochaber Pride 2025, I was so excited.
"We are currently working on a programme of events that the whole family can enjoy running up to the parade itself."
Having started after the Stonewall riots in 1969, Pride was originally a protest for the LGBTQ+ community in order to get equal rights.
Through a series of dynamic events, initiatives and fundraisers, Lochaber Pride actively champion a steadfast commitment to equality, inclusion and diversity.
"Our charity is more than just an organisation - it is a community hub where every individual is empowered to give their unique input," added Gemma.
"By creating safe spaces for dialogue and connection we hope to inspire both personal growth and collective social change.
"We believe that by embracing our differences and celebrating our commonalities we can build a stronger, more compassionate society.
"We look forward to welcoming everyone to any of our events and to seeing everyone enjoying themselves at Lochaber Pride on June 1."
The parade itself will start at Gordon Square in Fort William and make its way along to The Parade. More details will be revealed in the weeks to come.
Keen to involve young people, the group already have support from Lochaber High School and will be contacting the secondary schools in Kinlochleven, Ardnamurchan and Mallaig too.
Now retired, Rebecca Machin was previously head teacher at Kinlochleven High School before becoming the first head of the 3-18 Campus and said that supporting Pride events within the community is something she feels "very passionate about".
Committee member and councillor Sarah Fanet agreed, saying: "I have been so impressed by the amount of work put into this project by past and current members of the Lochaber Pride Committee over the last two years.
"I have repeatedly told them how important what they are doing is as it addresses a public wellbeing matter.
"According to a report, more than six in 10 rurally based LGBTQ+ young people in Scotland feel that their local area is not a welcoming place.
"A Pride in Lochaber is long overdue and this group of hardworking volunteers deserves all our support. Thank you Lochaber Pride."
Lochaber Pride is an inclusive charity organisation supporting the rights of LGBTQ+ people and their allies in the local community. They work to promote equality, celebrate diversity, and create a safe and welcoming space for all - and they need volunteers to help make a difference.
The group are currently looking for stewardship volunteers to ensure their events are safe, welcoming and well-organised.
