Toy charity seeks Gaelic play leader

Lorn Toy Cupboard is on the lookout for a Gaelic speaking play leader.

 

Fundraising from Argyll & Bute Early Years Service, Scottish Seafarms, the National Lottery and Oban Rotary Club meant the group could run a successful recruitment drive to build up its team and now provides six part-time jobs.

 

The charity has added a new play leader, a session assistant and two toy librarians to its staff .

 

"We are proud such a small local charity is now providing six part time jobs within the community and we have plans to continue growing," said chairperson Annie Anderson.

 

But the search is still on to recruit a Gaelic speaking play leader.

 

Annie added: "However, we were disappointed we failed to recruit a Gaelic speaking play leader to join our team. This vacancy remains unfilled, which is disappointing as we have not been able to offer Gaelic play sessions since Christmas.

 

"If we could put a shout out for a Gaelic speaking play leader and/or someone with an interest in Gaelic medium education to join our committee, that would be incredibly useful."

 

More fundraising is ongoing towards Lorn Toy Library's next project to get a website up and running.

 

"We are actively fundraising towards this so we can showcase all the toys we have to hire online and to spread our toy lending service even wider across Oban, Lorn and the Isles.

 

"It’s always so nice to hear from the public what a special place the toy cupboard often holds in their hearts. It’s the local charity for under 5s and we hear so many stories of how it has supported families to navigate parenting in the early stages, when play is fundamentally important to the development of the child and the health and well being of the parents," said Annie.
