The S1 to S3 Christmas dance was held in the High School’s Atrium on Thursday December 12 and featured ceilidh dancing and a disco to DJ music from Sam Coates.

The youngsters had been learning how to do traditional ceilidh dances like the Canadian Barn Dance in PE classes and put their all into the moves on the big night, with teachers joining in too.

Senior Depute Head Teacher Aileen Jackson was involved in coordinating the dance. She said: “It was a lovely evening and the kids had a ball.”

Aileen explained that the Jingles dances are a highlight of the social calendar for both junior and senior students. “The kids look forward to it throughout the whole year,” she added.

The ‘Winter Wonderland’  themed junior event was organised by the senior leadership team which consists of the School Captains and the Clan Leaders.

The team of pupils picks the theme of the Jingles dances, organises the ticket sales, books the bands and sorts the decorations. For the Junior Jingles they were also in charge of the cloakroom and making sure hungry dancers were well fed at the tuck shop.

The students all came dressed to impress and this year the High School ran a ‘swap shop’ in conjunction with Oban Re:Store, where junior and senior pupils could donate old suits, dresses and accessories for the Christmas dances. Over 80 pupils picked up outfits from the pop-up shop to wear to Jingles and wore their pre-loved clothes with style.
