Not long left to enter charity raffle featuring a wedding package worth £15,000

Time is running out to win a free wedding package worth £15,000.

 

Oban businesses united last year to contribute to the prize to help raise money for Motor Neurone Disease.

 

Tickets cost £10 and so far more than £2,300 has been raised - almost 50 per cent of the £5,000 target.

 

Prizes include a venue and catering for 75 guests thanks to Argyllshire Gathering Halls, as well as table and chair covers, table centrepieces, and a wedding arch, should the winners choose to have their ceremony in the venue.

 

The winner will be announced on Valentine's Day and the venue date is set for February 13, 2021.

Karen MacInnes organised the raffle after Oban man Brian MacDonald was diagnosed with the disease.

 

The 42-year-old's shock diagnosis forced him to take early retirement this year after 13 years saving lives from fires in Glasgow.

 

He had been struggling to lift his left arm in the shower but it was only when he struggled to pull himself into the driving seat of a fire engine that he went off sick and got help from a neurologist.

 

In August, he came home to Oban and has been touched by the community's support.

 

Karen said: 'Many off you will know that Brian [MacDonald] has recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease at the age of only 42.

 

'This is a devastating illness for Brian and his close family, so by donating just £10 and with an opportunity to win this fantastic wedding prize of over £15,000 is a small step into making a difference to MND.'

 

Karen is no stranger to fundraising. In 2018, she organised the renowned We'll Walk This Road Together charity concert in the Corran Halls, which raised more than £15,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Scotland.

 

'As a keen fundraiser I am always wanting to try make a difference to not only the person suffering, but to their families,' Karen added. 'We have decided to pull together as much of a wedding package as possible to raise money for MND Scotland.

 

'The money raised will go towards supporting families and also into the massive research for the disease. '
