Pupils went wild learning about otters thanks to a series of school visits from nature experts.
International Otter Survival Fund’s education officer Ben Yoxon was invited to visit schools in the Glencoe area by conservation group the Marine and Coastal Conservation of Loch Linnhe (MACCOLL) who look after various species in the area including otters.
Ben’s first stop off was at Ballachullish Primary School, where he spoke to 20 youngsters about nature and wildlife and then it was the turn of Duror Primary School who hosted children from St Bride’s Primary School at Onich and Glencoe Primary School.
The next day Ben caught a ferry to Arinagour Primary School on Coll getting out and about with the youngsters, searching for otter signs.
They did not have to go far to find success. Along a small river, the group found sprainting points, where an otter was regularly leaving its droppings.
Ben’s visit left the Coll pupils inspired to find their own "very green areas" to find more spraint.
"The trip was a great with the children being very receptive to the new information
and sharing their own stories of nature and wildlife," said Ben who is now back at International Otter Survival Fund’s base on Skye.
