Passengers have described the terrifying moment a window shattered onboard a train travelling to Oban from Glasgow when it was struck by a falling tree.
The frightening incident happened just after 3.20pm on Sunday on a ScotRail service from Glasgow Queen Street.
The train was just seven minutes from Oban at the end of a three-hour journey when the tree came crashing down and landed on one of the carriages.
Passengers had to be evacuated and ScotRail staff assisted customers along the remaining half-mile of track to the station.
One passenger told the Oban Times: "It was a miracle nobody was seriously hurt. It was terrifying as the driver suddenly slammed on the brakes and the train came to a sudden halt.
"There were people who had got up to sort their luggage thrown to the floor - people were screaming as nobody knew what had happened."
Subsequent services out of the town were impacted before Network Rail attended the site just before 7.30pm and removed tree trunk, branches and debris from the line.
Oban man James Gardener, who supplied these images to us, was travelling in the carriage that was hit by the tree.
He said: "All passengers had to be evacuated via a ladder, assisted by the train driver and conductor. We then had to walk along a slippery footpath following the tracks back to Oban.
"Some passengers were shaking and crying as the train performed its emergency stop. Passengers getting ready to get off the train were flung across the aisle and there were also people sat by the train window as it smashed.
"Thankfully nobody was injured."
The 4.11pm service to Glasgow was among those cancelled as a result of the incident.
ScotRail customer operations director, Phil Campbell said: “We’re sorry to customers who experienced disruption to their journey.
“Anyone delayed by 30 minutes or more is entitled to compensation and can claim that on the ScotRail website or mobile app.”
