Plans have been revealed for a pop-up sauna to be situated at Oban’s Ganavan Sands.
Wild Bathing, which is run by two locally-based sisters, wants to site the facility at the car park on Ganavan Road, and has submitted plans to Argyll and Bute Council for a change of land.
A statement with the application said that the facility, which has had a trial, aims to create “a tranquil escape for locals and visitors”.
Council planning officers are expected to rule on the application by the middle of May, with the public now able to view plans and submit feedback.
In a statement, Wild Bathing said: “Our mobile unit is designed for easy transport and setup, minimizing environmental impact and blending seamlessly with the natural beauty of the surroundings.
“The Scandinavian luxury barrel is heated by sustainably sourced wood, chopped by ourselves at the family croft in Connel.
“The sauna offers an eco-friendly way for visitors to warm up post-swim or enjoy a standalone wellness session.
“With a capacity to serve small groups of six people on a 55-minute session, at a cost of £15, the sauna maintains an intimate setting while allowing for private or individual group bookings. the sauna is booked through www.wildbathing.co.uk and we manage our online booking system ourselves.
“Each time guests book they receive a confirmation email with to dos and directions to site etc. This also gives us a chance to state that they ‘drive slow’ and park responsibly.
“With the addition of the sauna the council will also be in position to maximise on parking income. We take all medical info and have had a lawyer sign off our terms and conditions.
“We are giving local charities some complimentary sessions to generate goodwill in the community.”
The statement added: “This unique, community and tourism wellbeing business would enhance the offer at Ganavan beach without interfering with other people’s enjoyment of the venue.
“When we popped up as a trial, we had so many people intrigued and come up to say hello we offer a warm west coast. Parkrun folk used us and locals as well as tourists from afar.
“This partnership could introduce new visitors to the area, support local business while fostering a culture of outdoor wellness, community spirit and wellbeing. We can look to offer a discount for Ganavan residents also.”
