A record number of dancers took to the stage for Oban High School’s sold-out Summer Dance Show.
The school’s junior pupils entertained the crowd last Tuesday, June 11, with dance styles from Jazz to Contemporary, Highland to Irish and Gymnastic choreographies.
Senior pupils and top motivation movers Hannah Ferguson, Alasdair Lewis, Erin Farrelly and Annie Gill worked with younger pupils on two of the dances included in the show.
Four of the dances were choreographed by pupils themselves and had been entered for a pupil choreography competition in December.
Emily Pagan performed her own stunning solo, Abi McIvor, Layla May and Georgia Lane sparkled in their energetic number, and duets from Lily Davis and Molly MacKenzie as well as Alayna Baxter and Callie Dunn were performed with poise and feeling.
A bumper 57 dancers from S1 showed a phenomenal number of youngsters enjoying dance and performing on stage.
PE and dance teachers Denise Gemmell, Cara Potts and Tess Donald as well as dance teachers Katherine Blyth and Maggie Clunie have all been working during and after school with the pupils.
School Captains Finlay Brown and Susannah Whittle hosted the dance event, inviting P7 pupils from the audience on stage to take part in a special prize draw for a high school bag full of goodies. The P7 pupils had been at Oban High School that week for a three-day induction.
The parent council served teas and soft drinks during the interval and coffees and hot chocolates were served on the terrace from barista for the evening Aisling Clark. Prizes generously donated from school staff also boosted the raffle.
PE and dance teacher Denise Gemmell said: "Our S1-S3 pupils demonstrated real dedication in the run-up to the Summer Dance Show, attending practices and rehearsals over many weeks and many evenings. Their dedication paid off and they performed brilliantly on the night in front of a packed and supportive audience.
"It is fantastic for the younger pupils to have their own show and really take centre stage. There is such a buzz in the school in the run up to a show and I know all the pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves."
And she added: "We are very gratefully to everyone that came along on the night to support us. We are very proud of them all. A huge thank you also to all the OHS staff members who came along to help us on the night – these nights would not be able to go ahead without the very generous support of our colleagues. We are very thankful," she added.
