A new business in Tarbert has been congratulated for its venture via a special motion at the Scottish Parliament.
Loch Fyne Candles, owned by Carolyn and Cary Cairns, featured last week in the business section.
The couple had started creating their candles at home and exactly a year on, in November 2024, opened a shop in Tarbert’s Campbeltown Road.
Highlands and Islands MSP Tim Eagle proposed a motion on January 23 this year highlighting the success of Carolyn and Gary opening the new shop.
Mr Eagle said: “New business formation is really important, especially in rural areas like Argyll and Bute which rely very much on their small businesses.
“It is especially encouraging that Carolyn and Gary Cairns have felt able to actually open a shop, and that they have evidently had such great support from Business Gateway.
“Entrepreneurship is something that deserves recognition which is why I was more than happy to propose a motion at Holyrood highlighting their achievement.
“Obviously it is early days and running your own business is quite a responsibility, but it can also be immensely rewarding and I very much hope that Carolyn and Gary enjoy every success in their endeavour.”
The motion text reads:
That the Parliament congratulates Carolyn and Gary Cairns on recently opening the new Loch Fyne Candles shop in Tarbert, Argyll; understands that they received support from Business Gateway, which helped in securing funding and giving advice on marketing and branding, leading them to develop their business to the point where they have been able to open a physical store, having initially operating their business, which was established in November 2023, through a website and selling from home; acknowledges that Carolyn and Gary were successful in securing a UK Shared Prosperity Fund grant with the help of Business Gateway to support the next stage of their business, and wishes Carolyn and Gary every possible success with their business in the future.
