Muggles of all ages joined a variety of magical creatures at Campbeltown Town Hall for an evening of Harry Potter-themed Hallowe’en fun on Thursday October 31.
The Campbeltown building’s main hall was transformed into the great hall of Hogwarts, the boarding school for young witches and wizards that features in J K Rowling’s fantasy world.
The exquisite display, which featured floating candles and a functioning sorting hat, was meticulously planned and organised by town hall caretaker Bobby Cairns and volunteers Willie Durnan and Christophe Adie, who are both directors of South Kintyre Development Trust (SKDT) which owns and runs the town hall.
The town hall crew and supporters were unrecognisable after dressing as characters from the books and movies, including Professor Dumbledore, Dobby the house elf and even Harry Potter himself, to welcome about 350 visitors to the venue.
The children were treated to free sweets and drinks, courtesy of Campbeltown’s Co-op and Tesco supermarkets, which were available from the banquet tables in the ‘great hall’.
As well as the great hall, the tour included the Potions Room where Professor Snape was busy concocting some noxious potions using, among other things, frozen dragon’s breath and mealworms.
Before making it out, visitors had to traverse through giant spider Aragog’s lair, complete with cobwebs and fog.
The walk-through included a treasure hunt which tasked the youngsters with finding a number of objects throughout the building to complete the game.
SKDT manager Eric Spence said: “We would like to thank our town hall crew for once again putting on a magnificent spectacle for the kids of the town.
“Special thanks must go to Willie D, Bobby and Christophe for the amount of detail they put into decorating the venue.
“We also need to mention members of the End of The Road Club for their valuable support during the event itself.
“We would also like to thank Tesco and the Co-op for their generous donations of snack and treats.
“Entry was by donation to the Robert Black Memorial Helipad and we managed to raise a magnificent £440 on the night.”
