A potential risk of contamination to the water supply within Campbeltown Hospital and Campbeltown Hospital Dental Clinic was identified during routine maintenance this week.
A spokesperson for the NHS Highland health board said that appropriate disinfection measures have been implemented, but for further assurance, a programme of testing and verification will be carried out.
Until that testing is complete, additional processes such as water filtering and flushing will be put in place as precautionary measures, to reduce any residual risk to patients and staff.
The spokesperson added: “NHS Highland takes the safety of our patients and staff very seriously and has been taking expert advice throughout the process.
“The dental department services have been temporarily paused, but patient care and services will continue without interruption. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
