The final decision on the Mull Campus has seemingly been reached - but we doubt anyone has heard the end of this saga quite yet.
Campaigners who wanted a better site feel their opinions haven’t been listened to and are determined to fight on. They are now threatening a legal challenge and a protest this weekend to try and force a rethink.
Many feel that their voice hasn’t been heard during what has been a tiring, drawn-out process. This feeling has only been amplified as the council landed on a decision that many felt had been almost set in stone when the process begun all those months ago.
It is hard to get away from the fact that at the heart of the final call, money and finance seem to have been the main consideration as opposed to what is best for the education of current and future generations - and this just isn’t right.
Times are tough everywhere, especially at councils as budgets continue to be squeezed, but local authorities ultimately need to remember why they exist, and that is to best serve the people who live in their areas.
Has been done with a decision that has sparked so much debate and controversy? Only time will tell.
