Back to school for Bodkin boxing brothers
Two of Lochaber Phoenix Boxing Club’s award winning boxers went back to school for a day - this time to share their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with S3 pupils.
Anton (18) and Connor (16) Bodkin were happy take up an invite from the Lochaber High School PE Department to organise and run two classes covering the basics of boxing.
Both of the young boxers are exceptionally talented and committed to the sport and under the direction of Club coaches have taken Gold and Silver medals at Scottish National levels with Connor also being a current GB, Three Nations Golden Gloves champion.
A coach from the Club was due to join them and had to drop out at the last minute due to illness but was in no doubt of the boys abilities in demonstrating and imparting the essence of the sport themselves, working with PE Teacher Fraser Gray.
For two periods the young boxers ran through first of all warm up techniques than a series of exercises on footwork and basic boxing stances.
Each of the sessions concluded with a bit of light touch fun by setting up pupils in pairs who would then try to tap their partner on the shoulder while the other tried avoid the touch using boxing moves.
Principal teacher of PE, Yvonne Clark said: “I would like to thank the Club and the boys for coming in and taking part in the classes.
“The pupils really enjoyed it and came out smiling and enthusiastic about what they had learned.
“Anton and Connor are well known to us from their time in school and we knew that they would be 100% professional and do an excellent job, which they did.
“I also believe that Mr Gray had fun in joining in the activities as a temporary ‘student’ in the class.”
Both Anton and Connor, along with many other Lochaber Phoenix Boxers will be in the ring for real at their forthcoming Home Show in the Nevis Centre on Saturday March 29.
