It was another disappointing weekend with no game for the Boars, after the planned game against Hyndland was postponed only five minutes before kick-off when the opposition team failed to turn up or let Mid Argyll know they were not travelling, writes Lee Buckley.
A full squad had assembled at the Ropework keen to finally get 2025 off to a flying start, so with a large crowd anticipating a game, the squad split into Black & Gold teams and played against each other.
The club, players and spectators would like to say a massive thank you to Referee Robin Weir, who had also travelled from Glasgow for the game, for staying around and refereeing the hotly contested “friendly” match.
No punches were pulled in the game as the teams fought to come out on top . Each team scored four tries, Black scorers were James Campbell, Ali Peterson, Fionn Doherty and Callum Murray. Unfortunately only Ali managed to convert his try.
Gold scorers were Stu Charnock (2), Dan Broderick and Coll MacKay. Again the kicking let the Gold team down, with only one conversion coming from Stu Charnock. The game finished 22-22.
A sudden death penalty kick decider was needed and following first round failures from Jason Hammond and Callum Murray, Robbie Herd stepped up to convert his kick for the Blacks before Robbie MacTavish missed his for the Golds. Blacks won.
The club would like to thank to everyone who turned up to support the team on Saturday.
The Boars are due to play Isle Of Mull RFC next weekend at Garmony on the Isle of Mull, with a 1pm kick-off.
