Tournament favourite Bob MacIntyre’s first round of the Singapore Classic got off to a disappointing start after monsoon conditions wiped out any play on Thursday.
The start had initially been delayed until due to course conditions at Laguna National Golf Resort Club and the continuing poor weather forecast.
Play finally got under way this morning and it was a difficult start for the Oban man, not helped by missing a foot-long par putt on the 14th on his way to round of 73.
It leaves him languishing in 90th place, one over and eight off the lead. He has gone from 7/1 favourite for the title to a 200/1 shot.
The Glencruitten man was looking to build on his stellar start to the year and his top ten finish last week at Sawgrass as he looks to take his game into The Masters at Augusta in tip top shape.
He says he is feeling as good about his game as he ever has ahead of his Major bid.
The 28-year-old said: "It’s been good. It’s not been spectacular, but last week was probably the first time this year that I felt like I had a chance to win a golf tournament."
MacIntyre enjoyed a whirlwind rookie rookie campaign in America last year, winning the RBC Canadian Open and then on home soil the coveted Genesis Scottish Open.
He added: "I’m as prepared as I’ve ever been. My game has been in as good shape as it has ever been from driving all the way down to putting.
"The mental side of it, I think I am ready to give myself a chance at a Major. That is all I can ask for.
"You dream of winning golf tournaments, dream of winning Majors but you just want chances at these events. If you get in that position, you just go for it, that’s how I play my golf."
MacIntyre will head home from the Far East for a few days after this trip before putting the final touches to his preparation for an eagerly-awaited first Masters appearance since 2022, having finished joint 12th on his debut at Augusta National in 2021 then just missing out on a top-20 place the following year.
He added "I think I am starting to work out what is working for me and how to prepare week to week and I think the team around me is starting to work out the same thing.
"Just competing against the best in the world and actually having a chance to win has given me real confidence and I go to Augusta with my game in the best shape it has ever been."
