A jubilant team of young children from Brodick Primary School retained their title at this years Arran Primaries Netball Tournament.
The determined winners of last year’s tournament competed against eight other teams from all of Arran’s primary schools, including another team of their peers from Brodick Primary.
The five-a-side netball tournament takes place in the sports hall at Arran High School each year. It is both fast-paced and very competitive with three six-minute matches taking place at the same time and only a one minute interval between games.
Teams that are resting or awaiting their next game sit on the sidelines and loudly cheer on their team-mates.
This year’s tournament attracted 70 pupils from all of Arran’s seven primary schools with Brodick, Shiskine and Whiting Bay each entering two teams.
At the end of a long, loud, day of competitive fun, the points were tallied and Brodick North was declared the winning team with the most points. Shiskine One came in second place while Whiting Bay South and Brodick South shared joint third position.
At a short prizeging ceremony after the tournament the Arran Primaries Netball Tournament trophy was presented to Brodick North players, along with medals, and the second place winners received certificates.
Active Schools co-ordinator and organiser, Ross Dobson said: “A huge thank you to all of the pupils for taking part. Thanks to the Arran High School netball team which umpired the individual games and a massive thank you to all of the teachers, parents and helpers who have been coaching the children and for arranging for them all to be here today”.
