Over the course of two consecutive Tuesdays, 12 ladies competed for Dunaverty Golf Club’s Charles Hunter Trophy.
During the first round, the daytime ladies had dry, sunny but fresh blustery conditions, while the evening players had dull overcast skies. But this didn’t seem to affect decent scores being returned by many participants.
Elizabeth Marrison, in the first group of the day, scored a superb score of nett 61 (74 gross) to set the bar high for the remainder of the players.
However, despite valiant efforts by the remaining players, the nearest contender was Rae Bleasby with nett 64 (gross 89) ensuring Elizabeth led the field going into the second round.
The second round saw awful conditions for the morning players with torrential rain and strong winds making it difficult for players stay upright.
Of the morning players, Rae Bleasby still managed to return a score of nett 77 (gross 101) to set the pace.
For the most part, afternoon players saw drier but still windy conditions and Mary McIntyre was able to card a nett 69 (gross 88) to take over the lead spot.
In the evening, Elizabeth Marrison did not seem affected by the windy weather and was again able to return a good score of nett 66 (gross 78).
This allowed Elizabeth to leapfrog Rae to take first spot, which was matched by Linda Arkell, but Elizabeth had a better inward half and won this second round and the overall competition.
“Well done to all who took part,” said a club spokesperson.
