The professional squash tournament that was held at Atlantis Leisure over the weekend of November 16 and 17 was brought to a close on Sunday with an exciting final.
Rory Richmond of Scotland, playing in his first ever PSA Challenger 3 event final, came up against Spain’s Edmon Lopez who was playing in his 19th tour final.
And what a thrilling match it was with Edmon winning the three set thriller 11/7, 12/10, 11/4.
Tournament organiser Jackie Kersley of Oban Squash and Tennis Club (OT&SC), said: "The level of play was outstanding in all the matches.
"Its such a privilege and an honour for us to be able to bring this level of squash to our club.
"Our event was the biggest PSA event in Scotland this year and for OT&SC this is amazing that we can be involved in helping these guys from all over Europe climb the world ranking ladder.
"We couldn’t do it without the continued support of our sponsors who we are very grateful for, Alchemy, Aggregate Industries, MKM, Rexel, OES, Maurice Lockhart, the Sports Shop, Outside Edge and Invercreran Lodge.
"Thank you also to our lovely professional squash referees, Maureen and Ian Maitland from Aberdeen and Keith Oversby from Inverness.
To Dave Bleazard from Outside Edge for all his help in getting the tournament off the ground, to my sidekicks from our club Grant Addison, Kenny Drummond and Pete McKay, to the Benderloch Drama Club for the viewing platform, to the management and staff of Atlantis, especially Julie, Jonny, Lucy and Colin who were so helpful over the weekend.
"To everyone who came along to support these exceptional athletes, to the Scotland squash coach Paul Bell for his lovely words at the prize giving, explaining to us all how important this event is for the Scottish players as there are not many tournaments in Scotland for them.
"Lastly a huge thank you to all the players who took part and for bringing an incredible standard of squash to Oban.
"We are not the easiest club to get toand it took some of the players 12 hours to get to us but that didn’t hinder their performance.
"It just goes to show the level of dedication these amazing guys have for the beautiful game of squash. Hopefully we see them all again in 2025."
