Lochgilphead Golf Club’s annual Ladies Open began with a damp start to the day on Sunday August 18 but it did not dampen the spirits of the entrants.
Clubs from Tarbert, Glencruitten, Taynuilt, Lamlash, Kyles, Shiskine, Dunaverty and Lochgilphead were represented among the 43 golfers and it was all to play for.
This year’s event was generously sponsored, for the third year, by the Lochgilphead family business of Danny’s Ironmongers and Garden Centre.
Unfortunately this last few weeks of inclement weather didn’t allow the course to be in tip top condition, but with thanks to the greens staff and volunteers it was prepared as well as it could be.
Early scores on the board showed the wet and damp conditions were suiting some of the players more than others and, as ever, Lochgilphead’s hilly and undulating conditions certainly didn’t make it easy even for the elite of golfers.
Entrants were welcomed and looked after by the club’s lady members, with breakfast rolls on arrival and a light lunch at the end of their round, followed by some lovely homebaking and, importantly, refreshments were readily available from duty barman, Douglas.
Spot prizes were also on offer, with longest drive and nearest the pin, along with a mystery prize which all entrants had the opportunity to win.
There were plenty of raffle prizes on offer, too; thanks were given to all who donated.
A spokesperson for the ladies section said: "The ladies committee and members would like to thank Marina Campbell, Raymond, Douglas, Eddie, Iain, Alec and Tommy for their various assistance and efforts over the last week and on the day; your support is always appreciated.
"Our sponsors, Roddy and Sylvia MacDonald were on hand with club Captain Iain MacInnes for the presentation of prizes."
Final results: Lochgilphead Ladies Open Winner - 1 Sheena Ferguson (Tarbert) 36 points; 2 Diane Ouzman (Kyles) 33 points; 3 Jane Hepburn (Lochgilphead) 30 points.
Scratch: 1 Patricia Marsh (Kyles) 83; 2 Kirsty MacKenzie (Glencruitten) 85; 3 Kathleen Young (Lochgilphead) 88.
Senior Winner: Sheena Ferguson (Tarbert); Spot Prizes: Longest Drive - Eilidh Flanagan (Lochgilphead); Nearest the Pin - Issy Currie (Kyles); Mystery Prize 1 - Christine Cameron (Glencruitten); Mystery Prize 2 - Eilidh Flanagan (Lochgilphead).
"Thank you to all our entrants on the day, we hope you enjoyed your day out and look forward to seeing you next year," said the spokesperson.
