Kinlochshiel 1
Oban Camanachd 1
Kinlochshiel and Oban Camanachd shared the points following their 1-1 draw in their noon throw-up at Rèaraig.
The pitch was in great condition on a glorious day and the highlights from a flat first half were two excellent Cammy Sutherland saves.
At the other end, Kinlochshiel’s Finlay MacRae was booked by referee John Angus Gillies for taking Ross Macmillan down when he was through on goal.
Oban Camanachd’s Lewis Cameron had been suffering with an arm injury but was introduced at the interval.
The second half was much better and Oban Camanachd took the lead on 63 minutes. Matthew Sloss played on a long free-hit and although keeper Josh Grant dived to save with his right foot, substitute Lewis Cameron ran in on the left to lift the ball over the grounded keeper.
Kinlochshiel moved full back Finlay MacRae to full centre, Donald Nixon to buckshee and brought John MacRae off the bench with 15 minutes remaining.
The switches paid off as the home side equalised on 80 minutes. Ali Nixon’s hit-in from the right wasn’t dealt with by the Oban defence and when John MacRae tried to take a shot on the volley, the ball fell for Jordan Fraser who took the ball to the left before slamming it low to the keeper’s left on his backhand.
Kinlochshiel’s Finlay MacRae turned in a man of the match performance whilst Oban keeper Cammy Sutherland kept his side in it with two top saves in first half. Scott McKillop also played well.
Speaking after the final whistle, Kinlochshiel boss Willie MacRae said: “It’s as strong an Oban side as we’ve seen for a while. We pushed Finlay MacRae into midfield and Donald Nixon to buckshee forward as we went for it and I’m happy with the point.”
Lochaber 0
Kingussie 6
Kingussie beat Lochaber 6-0 in their 3.30pm throw-up at Spean Bridge to extend their lead at the top of the table to four points.
Lochaber full centre Martin Johnstone was passed fit to play after suffering a head cut in the previous week’s win over Kyles Athletic.
Kingussie welcomed back James Falconer who took a place on the bench after what has been an injury-plagued season so far.
Savio Genini returned to the Kingussie side to score two goals within a minute on 19 and 20 minutes. Dylan Borthwick added a third on 76 minutes.
Lochaber’s Max Campbell was sent off by referee Robert Baxter after a high swing caught Robert Mabon on the back of the neck.
Kingussie’s Dylan Borthwick went on to take his tally to four goals with efforts on 82 and 86 minutes and another three minutes into stoppage time.
Kingussie manager Iain Borthwick: “The boys had to be on it, and our defence didn’t give Lochaber an inch. Dylan Borthwick came off after half an hour after taking a blow to the knee but returned towards the end to score four goals.”
Caberfeidh 6
Skye Camanachd 2
Caberfeidh hit Skye Camanachd with a second half goal blitz to win 6-2 in their 3pm throw-up at Castle Leod.
Skye took the lead after 10 minutes through a powerful Jamie Gillies strike which flew by goalie Iain McCall.
Stand-in Skye keeper Ali MacDonald made a couple of fine saves to keep his side in front until half-time.
However, the second half was just a couple of minutes old when Craig Morrison’s fierce strike on the half-swing from the left levelled.
Kevin Bartlett gave Caberfeidh the lead on 59 minutes before making it 3-1 with a good shot from the left a couple of minutes later.
William Mackinnon cut the deficit to a single goal on 65 minutes, profiting after a clearance rebounded off home defender Liam Symonds.
Referee Willie MacDonald stopped play for a water break and when the game restarted, Craig Morrison produced another trademark finish to make it 4-2 with 67 minutes played.
Two late goals put gloss on the win with Craig Morrison completing his hat-trick on 88 minutes with a strike from the right and Ruaraidh MacKinnon finished from close range at the death to make it 6-2.
Caberfeidh now leapfrog Skye into fourth place in the league.
Caberfeidh boss Garry Reid said: “I always felt the goals were coming and I thought we played well.”
Glenurquhart 2
Kyles Athletic 2
Glenurquhart came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Kyles Athletic at Blairbeg.
Glenurquhart’s Ally MacKintosh remained out with a broken foot, but Lachie Smith recovered from a blow to the foot suffered the previous week against Skye to play. Fergus Robertson was out with a knee injury.
Kyles player/coach Roddy Macdonald was unavailable, but Andrew King returned following a hamstring injury. Will Cowie and Innes Macdonald started outfield for the first time since March.
A backhand strike on the right from former Skye player James Pringle went through keeper Stuart MacKintosh’s legs to give Kyles the lead on 15 minutes.
Conor Kennedy doubled the visitors’ lead on 31 minutes with a similar finish from the edge of the ‘D’.
Glenurquhart pulled a goal back three minutes before the turnaround when Ryan Porter took the ball down to score from around the penalty spot.
On 54 minutes, youngster Doug Brockie scored his first senior goal, beating stand-in keeper Jack Whyte to make it 2-2 and give Glenurquhart their first point of the season.
Glenurguhart boss Davie Stewart said: “We fought until the end and deserved at least a point. Everyone played their part. It was a day to remember for Doug Brockie.”
Kyles Athletic’s Will Cowie said: “I thought we were the better team, especially up front, for almost an hour and Stuart MacKintosh made several super saves to keep them in it. Glenurquhart then started to dominate the centre line and our hitting could have been better. It’s disappointing as I think Glenurquhart only had a couple of shots on target.”

Kilmallie’s Innes Blackhall faces a spell on the sidelines after being sent off by referee Ross Brown a minute from time.
The one downside for Inveraray was a knee injury which rules Ruaraidh Graham out for the rest of the season. Graham needed five stitches to the wound on his knee and an x-ray later confirmed a fractured knee cap with recovery time expected to be between three to six months.

Oban Camanachd and Lochaber meet in Scottish semi-finals
Oban Camanachd will have home advantage against Lochaber following the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup quarter-final draw made at Lovat’s Balgate ground.
The draw was made by referee Steven MacLachlan who is recovering well from a critical cardiac incident that took place when he was the man in the middle at a match between Caberfeidh and Kinlochshiel in early April.
He was presented with a new strip as he looks set to make his return to officiating as one of the goal judges at the cottages.com MacTavish Cup final between Fort William and Kingussie at the Eilan on Saturday June 8.
Oban Camanachd manager Gareth Evans knows his players will have a tough match against a Lochaber side who swept Kyles Athletic away in the last round.
He said: “Lochaber more than deserve their place in the quarter-finals for their performance against Kyles. They are a dangerous side that score lots of goals. We played them at Mossfield in the second league game of the season and although we led 3-1, they pegged us back to an eventual 3-3 draw. They never give up. We’re happy that the tie is at Mossfield as it will be tough.”
Fort William welcome Glasgow Mid Argyll to An Aird meaning at least one side from outwith the Mowi Premiership will make the semi-finals.
Fort William will host this year’s final and already have the cottages.com MacTavish Cup final against Kingussie at the Eilan this Saturday to look forward to.
Co-manager Alan Knox said: “We are happy with the draw and delighted to get a home tie. GMA will obviously be up for it as both teams know what is at stake. Whilst it’s a massive tie to forward to, we have to keep our focus on our next few games as they are also important for the club.”
Skye Camanachd has been given a tough clash against Lovat at Balgate. Skye manager Willie MacDonald said: “That’s a difficult one to get. Lovat will have a good squad ready for this tie and I notice second team captain Fraser Heath played for them in the last round of the Camanachd Cup. He’s a good player to be able to call on. I’m sure it will be close.”
Beauly’s prize for beating Kinlochshiel in the previous round is a tie against holders Kingussie at Braeview Park.
Ahead of the draw, Steven MacLachlan said: “I was one of the officials for Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final in 2023. It is truly the biggest event in the shinty calendar and I wish the best of luck to all the teams.”
The Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup quarter-final draw is:
Beauly v Kingussie
Fort William v Glasgow Mid Argyll
Oban Camanachd v Lochaber
Lovat v Skye Camanachd
The ties are scheduled for Saturday July 6.
The 2024 Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup final takes place at An Aird, Fort William on Saturday September 21 and discounted tickets, with 27 per cent off, are currently available at www.shinty.com/tickets.
MacTavish Cup Final preview
Fort William play Kingussie in the cottages.com MacTavish Cup final at the Eilan on Saturday June 8.
Fort William captain Victor Smith knows their supporters can be the club’s “thirteenth man” as they bid to upset the odds against the cup holders.
He said: “The supporters are everything and they were fantastic against Newtonmore in the last round. I’m sure every single one of them, and quite a few more, will be at the Eilan to cheer the team on in the final.
“Other than our keeper Paul MacKay, it will be a first senior final for the rest of the lads. We lost a tough game against Beauly in the league at the weekend, but we were maybe guilty of having one eye on the final.
“We’ll have players back for Saturday too and we’re looking forward to it.”
Kingussie are captained by Calum Grant who added: “We’ll follow our usual routine for a game at the Eilan. It’s something we are used to which is a wee bit of an advantage. The manager certainly has options with several players competing for a starting place.”
In terms of team news, Graham Cameron returns for Fort William after missing the last two games through suspension, whilst Kingussie’s James Falconer made his return from injury against Lochaber last weekend.
Throw-up is at 4.05pm and Graeme Irvine is the match referee.
The senior final will be preceded by the MacTavish Juvenile Cup final between Newtonmore under-17 and Skye Camanachd under-17 which has a 1pm throw-up.
There will be food and refreshments on site throughout the day provided by The Cairngorm Brewery, Highland Hog Roasts and Newtonmore Camanachd.
