The weather was great as Kintyre Angling Club welcomed a fantastic turnout of youngsters to Lussa Loch for its first Junior Open Competition on Saturday, May 11.
Nineteen juniors took part in the competition and, by all accounts, they had a great day on the loch.
“Quite a few fish were caught by the youngsters and it was great to see their excitement when they had a fish on and then landed it,” said a club spokesperson.
The competition’s first winner was Rosie McAulay who landed two great rainbow trout, weighing in at 2lb 9oz.
Full results: Finn: one brownie, 4oz; Tristan: one brownie, 5oz; Lyle: one brownie, 6oz; Evan: one brownie, 6.5oz; Kian: two brownies, 14oz; Corey: one rainbow, 1lb 2oz; Eilidh: one rainbow, 1lb 5oz; Ivy: one rainbow, one brownie, 1lb 7oz; Poppie: one rainbow, 1lb 8oz; George: one rainbow, two brownies, 2lb 8oz; Rosie: two rainbows, 2lb 9oz.
“Very well done, Rosie,” said the spokesperson. “We would like, very much, to thank everyone who very generously supported this competition: McFadyens Contractors Campbeltown Ltd, Glasgow Angling Centre, Angling Active, Helen Gilchrist of The Jolly Monday Show, Campbeltown Co-op and Campbeltown Tesco Metro.
“We very much appreciate it all and their amazing generosity made for a great day for all the youngsters.
“Last, but not least, thank you to Bruce Campbell and Kintyre Angling Club president John MacDonald, both angling club members and employees of McFadyens Contractors Campbeltown Ltd, for getting the ball rolling with this competition.”
